Livingston Library of Things and Museum Pass Lending Guidelines


Attention: Due to the health concerns regarding COVID-19, the Livingston Library will be closed from 12 pm on March 13th through March 27th. Reservations will be disabled during this time and reserved items will not available to be picked up. Please keep items that are currently checked out until we are open again. Thank you.


Reservation and Loan Guidelines: 

-- A valid Livingston Public Library card in good standing is required to borrow an item from the Library of Things. Borrowers must be 18 years or older. 

-- All items from the Library of Things must be returned in person to the Circulation Desk. Items returned to the book drops will be assessed a $5 fine. 

-- Patrons are able to borrow up to two reservable items at one time. This can be either two items from the Library of Things, two Museum Passes, or a combination of both. 

-- Mobile hotspots, Rokus, and Museum Passes are not renewable and must be returned to the Livingston Library on or before their due date. 

-- If you are unable to borrow an item that you have reserved, you must cancel the reservation in advance. You may cancel a reservation through the online reservation portal or by calling 973-992-4600 ext. 235. Failure to cancel a reserved item will result in a ‘no-show’ flag on your account which will impact your ability to borrow items from the Library of Things in the future. 

-- Overdue Hotspots will be deactivated after 48 hours.  

-- A patron may not borrow a Roku or Mobile Hotspot within 14 days of the return of one. Reservations made within this 14 day window will be canceled by library staff. 

-- Patrons must sign a Borrower Agreement before checking out an item from the Library of Things. 


Proper use and liability: 

-- The patron agrees to use the item solely for its intended use and will follow proper safety guidelines and included instructions where applicable.

-- The patron will not tamper with the equipment or attempt to repair or modify it in any way.

-- Use of any item in the Library of Things is at the patron’s own risk. The library is not responsible for any injury, loss, or damage that may occur from use of an item in the Library of Things. 

-- The Livingston Library is not responsible for any personal information left on devices upon return to the Library. 

-- All patron files must be saved to an external storage device. Any files saved to library equipment cannot be retrieved after the device has been returned to the library.  

-- The patron assumes responsibility for the care and safety of any items for the duration of the loan period. 

-- The Livingston Library will not accept replacements for equipment that is damaged or lost. The patron is responsible for any costs associated with damage, loss, or theft of any items or components checked out to them. This includes full retail replacement costs as well as associated library processing fees. 

-- Library staff will inspect all Library of Things upon check-out and check-in to the library to make sure all parts are included. Any missing items will be charged to the patron with no exceptions. 

-- The Livingston Library reserves the right to amend and change these guidelines at any time.
